out-school services department

Our out-school component is targeted at AYP that are not in any education, training nor employment (NEET). the component intends to empower and support AYP that need opportunities to further their education, training and linkage to care (health and wellness) through our Psychosocial team being our social workers.

AGE GROUP

  • 10-14 YRS AGYW & ABYM (through PSS)
  • 15-19 YRS AGYW & ABYM
  • MSP +25 YRS                                  

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The cadres of out-school utilize risk assessment tool to gather data about AYP and it guides the department on what are the services the AYP may need, and we provide them as well as refer them/link them to care as well as reporting progress made about reaching Out School AYP. There are 3 safe spaces: Team A Ext 19 Embalenhle Team B Leandra known as Hashtag & Team C Ext 8 Embalenhle

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • HIV testing services, prep provision screening & STI screening and treatment
  • pregnancy test & contraception
  • referral for grants & assistance to apply social relief distress grant
  • referral for birth certificates and ID
  • provision of dignity packs
  • primary & secondary assistance for returning to school
  • university application and bursary application assistance
  • access to unlimited WIFI @ safe spaces (Leandra & Embalenhle)
  • youth leadership sessions/skills development sessions
  • assistance with applying jobs
  • PSS: psychosocial support by social workers: individual & group counselling: home visit
  • dialogue sessions & awareness campaigns
  • intellectual properties: grassroots soccer, one man can, vutshilo 3kidz alive etc
  • referral to different facilities for different services
  • post violence counselling & support (ref to TCC)
  • sports arts & culture talent shows

TEAM STRUCTURE

  1. Out school coordinator: oversees implementation of AYP Program, field teams, safe space progress and stakeholder engagement
  2. Safe space coordinators/social workers: ensures day to day activities at the safe spaces, provide psychosocial support to AYP and monitor the smooth running of the safe spaces.
  3. Peer Group Trainers: collect data and report daily and link clients to services highlighted from risk assessment.
